Family Support Specialist-Sawyer County

Intensive Support Services (ISS) provides mentoring, crisis intervention, individual counseling, and evidenced-based group programs to Sawyer County youth and their families. The Family Support Specialist provides guidance, support, and advocacy services for youth and families referred to the ISS program. This position works closely with both the families and the youth, offering support, skill development, and connecting them with community resources. Their role involves facilitating communication between families and other system partners, schools, social workers etc., addressing challenges, and promoting positive pro-social behavior for the youth through advocacy and family engagement.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with youth and families in the home and/or in the community.
  • Provide Individual Skill Development to assist youth and/or families with advocating for their needs, increasing communication skills, coping skills, problem-solving, decision-making, managing emotions, resolving conflict, developing a natural support system, and addressing any other social needs they may have
  • Help families navigate and schedule important appointments such as medical, dental, court hearings, and school meetings, providing them with support and direction throughout the process.
  • Work in close collaboration with other treatment providers and/or system partners who may be on the youth and families recovery team
  • Attend team meetings with the youth and family and other team members
  • Engage in clinical supervision and apply recommendations to work with youth and families

Qualifications and Competencies

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a human services field, preferred
  • Certified Peer Support Specialist or Certified Parent Peer Specialist, preferred
  • One year of experience working in the mental health or substance abuse field preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse economic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds
  • Previous experience with providing strengths-based, client-centered, trauma-informed care
  • Training and experience providing skill development services to work in this scope of practice competently
  • High level of skill in organization, attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Proficient in utilizing Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel and web-enabled databases
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Fluency in Spanish, oral and written, preferred
  • Pre-employment background check
  • Valid driver’s license and insured automobile
  • Pre-employment background check and annual tuberculosis testing and flu vaccinations as required Sawyer County
